Jakarta (23/7/25) - PT Asmin Bara Jaan (ABJ) and PT Telen Orbit Prima (TOP) conducted a handover of Watershed Rehabilitation Obligation Land to the government c.q. Director General of Watershed Management and Forest Reclamation (Director General PDASRH) of the Ministry of Forestry on July 23, 2025.
In the initial phase, ABJ implemented planting across 40 hectares in Katunjung Village with 26,000 seedlings, while TOP planted 300 hectares in Sei Ahas Village with 195,000 seedlings. Both activities were conducted based on approved technical planning documents.
Technical implementation was carried out comprehensively. The stages began with area arrangement and clearing, installation of signboards, construction of work huts and temporary seedling storage facilities (TPS), as well as drilling wells to support fire control. Row directions were determined by considering plot shapes and inspection road positions, followed by opening planting lanes, herbicide spraying, and installing stakes as planting points. Seedlings consisting of local species such as Shorea balangeran, Syzygium havilandii, Alstonia scholaris, and Melaleuca leucadendra were distributed manually from TPS to stake points by forest farmer groups. The planting distance used was 4 x 5 meters, with total seedling requirements adjusted to field conditions. After planting completion, activities continued with weeding, plant maintenance, pest and disease control, and replanting with a 10% reserve percentage. Additionally, geotagging activities were conducted at representative planting points to spatially document the presence and condition of plants. This activity aims to strengthen field evidence, facilitate verification processes, and support transparency and accountability in reporting to both regulators and other stakeholders. Geotagging also serves as a long-term monitoring tool for the development of land cover resulting from rehabilitation.
The results of these activities showed very high success rates. Based on exposure and technical verification results involving inter-agency teams consisting of BPDASHL, Directorate General of Soil and Water Conservation (KTA), Provincial and District Forestry Services, KPHL, and PPKH, planting conducted by ABJ was declared successful with an average growth percentage of 121.73%, and TOP recorded an average of 108.53%, with some plots even reaching more than 130%. This achievement far exceeds the minimum success standard set by the government, which is 75% live plant growth rate. All planting areas were declared 100% successful and have been officially handed over to the Directorate General PDASRH for further management by area stakeholders.
The success of Watershed Rehabilitation by ABJ and TOP is not merely fulfilling administrative obligations, but represents a concrete manifestation of corporate commitment to peat ecosystem restoration and environmental resilience strengthening. The implementation of activities based on community participation, strict technical standards, and inter-institutional supervision proves that collaborative efforts are key to preventing the recurrence of ecological disasters in the future. This activity also contributes to supporting the national peat restoration program and broader, sustainable climate change adaptation.
